Oliver woke from a deep sleep to the loud cacophony of two phones ringing in tandem. He sat up and glanced at his cell, noting the time—six in the morning—and the caller—Eli. Shit, this can’t be good. So much for having one day off. His body was stiff and achy, but in the very best way.

Jon’s phone sat on the nightstand and buzzed away as well, so he nudged his sleeping partner while he answered his phone.

“Eli, what’s going on?”

“Sorry to disturb you on your day off, boss, but we have a situation.”

“What’s happened?” he asked, throwing the covers off the bed and hurrying over to his closet. He pulled out clean briefs, jeans, and a t-shirt and put the phone on speaker, dressing as fast as possible.

“Devon showed up at the apartment building a short while ago. The concierge, Mark, prevented him from getting in the elevator and called the cops, but Devon didn’t take too well to being denied access and punched Mark, then fled. The police are here now asking questions.”

“Shit. He’s getting more aggressive and unstable. I’ll be over there as fast as I can. Tell the detective in charge to wait until I get there so I can talk to them. Is Dax okay?”

“Yeah, Dax is unnerved, and he feels terrible for Mark. Plus, his film role starts Monday, and he’s worried about the producers getting wind of this. They might want to postpone scheduling or retract his role.”

Oliver headed back into the bedroom to find Jon standing near the window, naked, talking on the phone at a rapid pace. He turned suddenly and mouthed “I have an update.”

“Me, too,” Oliver mouthed in reply.

“Jon has an update about the investigation. We’ll try to be there in a half hour if traffic cooperates. Call Mason to advise him about what’s happened.”

He hung up and walked up to Jon, kissing him softly.

“This isn’t what I had anticipated for today.” He paused. “That was Eli. Devon tried to gain access to Dax’s apartment building, and he punched the concierge. The police are on site.”

“Work comes first. We both know that.” Jon kissed him one more time, then pulled away. “The producer is ready to give me all the details today. I’ll head over with you to Dax’s first and then swing by to do my interview. Do you have a spare t-shirt and a pair of jeans I could borrow? I think I tore a few buttons and zippers in my haste to get my clothes off last night.”

Oliver chuckled. “Sure, what’s mine is yours.” He ran back to the closet and quickly searched through a shelf to find an ancient NYFD t-shirt and a pair of jeans that he hadn’t worn in years but would probably fit Jon just right.

“Try this.” He handed the clothing over to Jon, who pulled on a very small pair of tight briefs. “And hurry up. Your sinful body is way too distracting.”

Jon dressed quickly, the clothes almost a perfect fit, and threw on his black jacket from last night.
